Pirelli's Ten Kate Honda leave Japan leading the championship

By Worldsbk.com

A solid finish by both Ten Kate Honda riders after a difficult weekend saw Chris Vermeulen take a ten-point lead in the World Supersport Championship. It was a typically hard-fought Supersport race, with plenty of action all through the field. Karl Muggeridge took the lead early in the race but was unable to maintain it. “I made the wrong tyre choice and I’m pretty mad about that,” said Muggeridge. “The bike was running really well and when I hit the front I felt good, but my tyre choice eventually cost me the win. Now I am really looking forward to racing at Monza.”

Team mate Chris Vermeulen was obviously pleased to extend his title lead, “I’m leading the championship and that’s very positive going into Europe,” he said. “It was a great race, I think we made the best of what was a difficult weekend in qualifying. We were expecting some very fast race times but the race was actually quite slow, it seemed to me that no rider had much grip out there today, I don’t know why but the lap times aren’t on par with last year.” When asked about his thoughts going into Monza, Vermeulen’s reply was a simple; “I’m glad to be on a Ten Kate Honda for Monza because I know it will be fast!” Team Manager Ronald ten Kate thought the weekend had finished well, “I’m very happy with the result,” he smiled. “We are leading the championship, Karl is in a good position now and obviously he’s back to his full form after his injuries at Phillip Island. I think that the season will really heat up when we return to Europe. There are four really big races ahead of us that could really shape the championship this year.”

Australian, Chris Vermeulen continues to show his form in World Supersport riding the Pirelli shod Ten Kate Honda.
